To The Pain.

A week or so ago I raced in a 40 mile cross/mtn race along the low road/minnesota river bottoms with a bunch of other sadistic people. I ended up riding my Fuji and although it was hard as fuck I don’t regret the choice of bike at all. Due to mud, sand, and fatigue I ended up crashing over 10 times the last being a fully stretched, over the bars, superman to head slide a mile before the finish but I did finish with a smile (or at least I think I was smiling but I was so tired I may have been delirious.) Above is a photo of the start and below is the aftermath on my bike (also these photos were taken after the first cleaning).

Moonrise Kingdom.

This looks amazing. I can’t believe this is the first I’m hearing about this movie.

Svoboda, Summer Pledge, Buildings, Lungs.

Last night we ventured down to Memory Lanes to take in some of my friends band, Svoboda play with a couple other awesome bands. Even though Memory Lanes is a weird place to see a show we had a blast. Svoboda killed it straight through although I’m pretty sure the first and last songs were my favorites but I can’t always tell when one song ends and another begins. Summer Pledge were apparently awesome musicians but I couldn’t dig the vocals, middle school pop-punk esque, but they did make a comment about a couple making out the whole night in front of everyone which made my night. (“You guys got me rock hard right now. But you can’t see ’cause it’s tucked up in my waistband.”) Buildings was fucking awesome, pure rock ‘n roll metal mixer. Lungs finished off the set and were awesome as well (if you haven’t heard Lungs before click here and check it out: LungsMS)

Mountain Bike Wisco Weekend!

New cockpit just in time.

I like how my camera perceives Jody’s beard as a big red blob eating his face.

Central Waters Illumination, if you haven’t had it (and you drink beers) you are missing out.

This last weekend was a blast, two friends and I packed up the Prius and headed to Central Wisconsin for a good old fashioned Mountain Bike Hoe Down. We left Friday morning and got into Nine Mile in Wausau a little after noon and rode there til 530. (there is video of the rockgarden climb/descent over on the Fast Crusade’s Facebook page which you should join by clicking here: FastCrusadeFB) Then we packed up and headed down to Stevens Point where we had a fish fry at the Hilltop Pub (best fries in Wisconsin) afterwards we headed to the Central Waters Brewery for a beer (best beer in the World). We ended up doing a bit of sketchy night riding at a small place called Hartman’s Creek before returning to my parent’s house and hottubbin’. We pulled our selves out of bed on Saturday and went over to Standing Rocks and rode 15 miles before packing up the car and motorcycle to hit Levis Mound (which may be my new favorite place to ride in Wisconsin, sorry Rock Lake). We camped there, cooked food, and fell asleep content – well Jody didn’t but that is a different story. Sunday was a long drive on backroads on my motorcycle to make it to work (a little late perhaps.) Sorry there aren’t more photos my phone died on Saturday morning.

Justin Townes Earle.

A week or so ago we headed out with a couple friends to see Justin Townes Earle play at the Varsity Theatre. If you don’t know Justin Townes is Steve Earle’s son and if you don’t know who Steve Earle is I suggest you do some research. Anyhow the last time Townes was going to play here he had to cancel due to rehab and boy I’m glad he didn’t have to cancel this time because he was fantastic and the opening act Tristan was a fun mix of Dolly Parton and Cyndi Lauper. Anyhow there have been a bunch of write-ups about the show that you can read somewhere else so here is a video of Justin Townes at The Current:

Friends Bands and Businesses.

A couple weeks ago two old friends of mine played shows on the same night and I actually ended up making it to both of them. First was Mike “Talls” Behrends and the second was my friend Bill’s band Pennyroyal. Mike plays some folk/blues/grass mixer by himself (and sometimes with a band) and is super chill and nice to listen to – head over to his bandcamp to check him out http://behrends.bandcamp.com/.

Pennyroyal is a four piece band made up of three dudes and a lady and play a mix of rock n roll, punk, honky tonk, and whatever else they want. Super fun and they are actually getting some good write ups recently like this one here: Star Tribune. You can also listen to them over here at their bandcamp, http://pennyroyalmusic.bandcamp.com/

It was a fun night and not only did we get to see some good music we also were able to take a sneak peak at our friends, Molly and Lucy’s new endeavor called There There which you can check out over here at http://www.etsy.com/shop/therethereshop or head on up to Northeast Minneapolis on the 18th, 19th, or 10th of May for Art Crawl and check them and others out there… there (sorry I couldn’t help the pun.)
